A user with Administrator Rights can mass update customer information in the database. As sales reps move on in their career, you can transfer accounts to a new sales rep, you can update the state and segment.

Go to Admin >>> System settings and use the filters available to narrow down the accounts you want to change. At the lower part of the screen select the field you want to update. In the example below we are transferring all Prospects from Kristen to Melissa.
